In 2022, I purchased some old wood ends to continue using aged wood. Some of the pieces are marked with saw marks, I used them anyway as they do not inhibit the sounds of the call in any way. Since those marks show up I have reduced the price of a the calls until those calls are sold! I have reduced the price by $5 per call till they are all gone! Call me and listen for yourself im sure you won't be disappointed!
After 2 years of drying 4 different types of hard woods, I have again built a very simple looking, but extremely functional box call. Visiting with 2 men living back east, who have been making box calls for years, they suggested to me a couple of things. First, quit trying to get into the "cute" or "pretty" box call making! Get into the, "sounds like a turkey" box call making. According to them, most of the fancy calls don't hold up for years of use and paddles made from combo of glued woods, will crack and quit working after a few years of use. Thus the use of single hard wood dried to make super contact with the sides of the call.
The sides of the new call are made of two woods, one for the sound board and one for finger protection. Cut and angeled to provide supurb contact and exact replication of true turkey sounds, the rhythm of the call is up to you I can't build that in for you! The sides are truely 2 different notes, so you get two distinct sounds and easy gobbles.
If you click here ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=F34MHHvLqtU ) you will go to a youtube video of the new calls and you can hear how easy the gobble is with a true double sided call.
This is the best box call I have made and one of the finest you can find, let alone at this price. Truely a double sided call.
